The fights kick off from 2PM Thursday till Saturday
March in the Kenyan boxing calendar normally indicates a time for young talents to make another big step towards stardom and this year will be no different as the curtains for the Boxing Federation of Kenya National Intermediate Boxing Championships open on Thursday.
Kajiado County Boxing Association will be hosting the three-day event set to be held at the Ongata Rongai Social Hall from 2 pm.
In a communication from BFK, county boxers who successfully punched their tickets through last month’s national novices championships and made their way past the county intermediates tournaments last weekend will get an opportunity to have medicals Thursday mid-morning before confirming participation in the weekend session.
The National Intermediate championship is the third event on BFK’s youth calendar where stiff competition is expected before winners proceed to the big stage - National Open set for April 6-8 this year.
Among the boxers expected to take part in the tournament is Jericho Boxing Club’s Lee Njorohio- light welterweight Nairobi Intermediates champion.

The 18-year-old registered three straight victories in the National Novices championships, trouncing Kenya Police’s Maurice Ouma in the finals.
“I feel excited to now be in the Intermediates finals,” Njorohio said after his weekend victory. “Onwards and upwards, hopefully I can get through this stage.”
Top prospect Emmanuel Mswahili of Mukuru Fight-4-Life is also expected to be in action after winning the Nairobi Intermediates minimumweight category against fierce opponent Timothy Daniel of Thailand Boxing Club.
East African representative Dennis Muiya will be one of the favorites in the bantam-weight category having outclassed Luca Masawe in last month’s finals.
Elijah Odongo- the light middleweight novices champion- is also expected to be on the final list of participants.
In addition to the national youth championships, BFK are awaiting a decision from the ANOCA representatives on the future of the ANOCA Youth Africa Championships which were initially slated for May.
